You Are Now Possessed is a clever pixel puzzle game built around a simple but unsettling idea: what happens when you’re not the one in control? You play as a wandering musician who picks up a cursed vihuela, only to discover that something inside it has a will of its own.
The goal is to escape by clearing 14 carefully designed levels, but the challenge isn’t just about solving puzzles; it’s about dealing with sudden moments where your character stops listening to you. The spirit inside the instrument doesn’t just exist in the story; it actively interferes with how you play.
The game constantly switches between two states:
This shift is where everything gets interesting. You might be forced to walk forward, swing a weapon, or continue moving in a direction you didn’t intend.
Each level becomes a small strategy problem. You’re not just thinking about your next move, but also what will happen when control is taken from you. A wrong step can send you straight into spikes or off a ledge, while the right setup can let the "possessed" actions solve the puzzle for you.
Scattered across the levels are items like vases and chests. They’re not just decorations; they often trigger the possessed state or unlock the path forward. Deciding when to interact with them is part of the puzzle, because timing can completely change the outcome.
Failing doesn’t feel random. Most of the time, it’s because you didn’t think far enough ahead. The game rewards patience and observation, asking you to learn how the spirit behaves and use it instead of fighting it.
What makes You Are Now Possessed stand out is how it turns control into the main mechanic. Instead of mastering movement, you’re learning how to work around losing it. Every level feels like a small experiment - set things up, trigger the curse, and hope your plan holds together.
It’s not about fast reactions. It’s about thinking ahead even when you know you won’t be the one making the next move.
